JKA 25 Years: 2016

In 2016, JKA began the alteration and repair of a former senior residence built in 1971. JKA's work program included interior reconfiguration of rooms and common areas, the creation of a new entry fronting Santa Monica Blvd, coordination of new MEP systems throughout, seismic upgrades, and the design of a take-out restaurant and commercial kitchen that serves both guests and the surrounding neighborhood. At the exterior, the building was completely reclad utilizing dark bronze corrugated metal panels at upper stories, matching windows, and a metallic black face brick at the ground level facade. When completed in 2022, the combination of materials, new openings, entry, storefront, and marquee combined to establish new street visibility, sidewalk interest, and a contemporary hotel identity.
