JKA 25 Years: 2012
JKA was asked to design a free medical clinic integrated into a 150-person community re-entry facility that had been previously renovated by the firm. The goal was to serve the health needs of both the residents of the building and the surrounding community. Reconfiguring an underutilized office area, the new medical facility included four exam rooms, a laboratory, a provider room, pharmacy, and waiting and reception areas. To serve both residents and neighbors, the clinic provided direct access from both the residential facility as well as a separate sidewalk entrance, with interactions between residents and community members overseen and controlled by a centralized, common, and secured reception area.
