PVE Objective Design Standards Adoption!
On 6/24/25, the Palos Verdes Estates Multifamily and Mixed-Use Objective Design Standards (ODS) were adopted!
Working with De Novo Planning Group who were responsible for interim development standards, JKA prepared design standards for Palos Verdes character and identity that foster the City’s historic architectural character. The ODS are a stand-alone document that supplements the City’s zoning code. Broken into two themes, “Site and Massing,” and “Architectural Style,” the ODS reinforce basic requirements for heights, setbacks, yards, etc, with more specific design requirements, that relate new projects to the scales, rooflines, materials, details, and colors of their surrounding built-form environment. Based upon precedent and community input the new parameters are decidedly Spanish Revival.
The ODS will provide more certainty for by-right design outcomes that reflect community design expectations while facilitating the consistency and timelines of staff review and response to housing and mixed-use project applicants.
