John Kaliski Architects working for Hogle Ireland and the City of West Hollywood is responsible for analyzing urban design conditions and recommending policies for incorporation into this City’s general plan update. Key issues examined have included appropriate infill building typologies along commercial boulevards, guidelines for multi-family residential projects, and the impact of zoning incentives on urban form and adjacent neighborhoods. Additionally JKA, working with Strategic Economics, a Berkeley, California real estate and market economics firm, examined the design and economic development feasibility of catalytic sites scattered throughout the city at key intersections in relationship to proposed land uses, densities, and incentives. To date, JKAs' work has been utilized to refine sub-district boundaries, define maximum height and setback requirements in higher density areas, reformulate multi-family zoning standards, rethink accessory unit standards, and expand the definition of open space to include the city’s street and sidewalk network.
