JKA, leading a team of subconsultants, was asked by the City of Signal Hill to develop Master Plan alternatives for future enhance-ments to the City’s Civic Center. JKA’s work included completing an existing conditions analysis, conducting all outreach, holding a design workshop, and developing the final drawings and renderings for the Master Plan alternatives. Notably, JKA organized a three-day, in-residence workshop, where the team designed three alternatives in which the visions and goals for the architecture, urban design, landscape and infrastructure were generated. JKA facilitated several breakout sessions with City Staff, stakeholders, and community members. The resulting alternatives, “The Campus,” “The Terrace,” and “The Green,” were reflective of what the City and community most valued in their Civic Center. In Spring 2024, the City plans to select one design alternative based on community and decision-maker input, to further develop with a reiterated design and high-level phasing plan, 10-year implementation timeline, and associated construction costs of approximately $70 million.
