John Kaliski Architects designed McLaren’s “flagship” North American showroom and dealership for a highly visible location on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. The second McLaren showroom and dealership to open in the United States, the project implemented an European brand system developed in England with coordination, redesign, and installation of casing systems and identity components from England, Germany, and Switzerland.

At the exterior of the existing building an “eyebrow” was added to the façade along Wilshire Boulevard, creating an accent line above the transparent storefront. The result better defines with minimal means the form of the existing show windows and draws the eyes of passing motorists and pedestrians into the dealership.

Both new and used cars, as well as service, are accommodated in the structure. To save costs, existing offices on the perimeter of the showroom were retained and retrofitted with compatible American contract office systems. From start to finish, coordinating metric with imperial measurement systems and ensuring compatibility of European components in an American setting, or selection of equivalent alternates, required careful project management. The result is a carefully detailed space and tenant improvements that supports the McLaren brand system and compliments the bespoke vehicles.
